Adam Dant to give a Talk on his work to Friends of Royal Academy and Upton Cressett – Wednesday, 25th October
The RA Friends are coming to tour the house and see a remarkable new work in the Gatehouse by the artist Adam Dant. He has just finished a spectacular new gilded wall painting, augmented by the addition of a sixteenth century inspired decorative ceiling, in the Gatehouse archway. It depicts the grail-like story of the Parliamentary Mace from 1066 to the present day.
Adam was the official general election artist of 2015 and has work in the V &A, Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and is collected by HRH Prince of Wales.
For those of you who may have thought about a romantic mini-break stay in our award winning Gatehouse for a special occasion, birthday, anniversary or holiday, we are now offering a special £220 a night rate (for UC Friends) for up to four guests.
We have completely refurbished the Prince Rupert Suite on the top floor and also revamped the Thatcher Suite so please take a look on our website. The Gatehouse has been awarded five stars by Shropshire Tourism and has been a winner of ‘Best Hidden Gem’ category in the country at the national Hudson’s Heritage Awards. We are able to offer three course dinners served by the log fire in the hunting lodge style dining room to make your stay a memorable one.
William has written a recent article – ‘Sleeping With History’ – for Country & Townhouse magazine about the dilemma of what to call bedrooms in country houses that have hosted historic or literary figures, or at least claim to have hosted certain guests. It can read on our Blog page and on the press page.
For anybody who would like to meet Adam, he has kindly agreed to give an extra talk about his work to the ‘Friends of Upton Cressett’ at 11am (arrive 10.30am) on 25th October (talk, tea and biscuits in the Gatehouse at £5). Places will be limited so please email to reserve a place.
